What is Holy Basil?

Holy basil (Osimum sanctum) is also referred to as TULSI in the ancient Indian System of Ayurveda. The Holy basil plant  is the Laminaceae family, and is a shrub perennial with pink-purple flowers and a refreshing lemon aromatic scent. Holy Basil or Tulsi, is not the same plant as Sweet Basil that is often used in Italian and Asian recipes. The Holy Basil plant grows in many tropical areas around the world, and contains a variety of active naturally occurring components, including eugenol,  gamma-caryophyllene , ocimumosides A and B, methyl eugenol, along with vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin K.
